Sega will make you smarter?
If you're looking to print money right now, you'd not do at all badly investing in the creation of some sort of brain training game, preferably for an online and/or handheld gaming system (to maximise portability and wide use).
Enter the mighty DS and it's brain training collection, which currently consists of two Brain Training games, Big Brain Academy and another couple of Memory games which are tied in with an adventure game in space. The simple aim? They train your brain, you become sharper and smarter, maximise your learning potential and the developers and publishers rub their hands as the moolah flows in.
Sega it seems, are now joining the hand-rubbing club with a DS title promised to arrive during the Spring 2008, currently titled Brain Assist. Details are scanty at the moment, but we're told that the game will be based on a Japanese arcade title called Touch De Uno! and will feature four nurses. Steady, fellas ...
Memory, concentration, reflexes, deduction and analytical abilities are the promised areas of gaming, so at this point it's sounding more Big Brain Academy than anything else. With a 2 player co-op mode and a four player contest using WiFi, you'll be able to share the fruits of your brains with others.
"Giving your brain a workout is important no matter what your age, especially if you want to increase those IQ points" said Gary Knight, SEGA Europe. "Brain Assist is easy to pick up and play, and being on the DS means you can exercise your mind wherever you go!"
We would expect to see them developing a Wii version regardless, so watch for that announcement later on. In the meantime, we'll just point out that really, one (or at the most two) of these brain training games is all you need - over playing of brain games won't make you smarter, since there is a saturation point for everyone in terms of maximising the sharpness of their natural ability. However, we think these games are well worthy of your time, especially on a handheld because you really can take them wherever you go. If you tire of the tests in one brain training title, maybe it's time to get a new one - but remember. Playing five brain games a day is more likely to wind you up than make you smarter.
