Anyone disappointed at the thought of Mario and Sonic having their first crossover at the Olympics can now rest easy, as these two long-time rival gaming icons will now be able to either team up or duke it out on better grounds.

That's right! It was revealed today by Nintendo and Sega that Sonic the Hedgehog is the latest addition to the playable roster on the upcoming Smash Brothers Brawl. Having now watched videos with Sonic in action, we can confirm that it's true and also that Sonic's moveset is very much what you'd expect - he can go SuperSonic but the rest of the time he relies very much on whirling around and hitting everything, very quickly.

A fantasy for many has been fulfilled.
