Evil returns via the Wii
According to Nintendo Europe, Wii is taking on a sinister twist as not one but two survival horror games from the highly popular Resident Evil series launch on the system.
The first, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is a re-mastered version of the award winning game with all-new motion sensitive controls. Later in the year this will be joined by the all-new Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, a Wii gun shooting game spanning the rest of the series. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles are developed by Capcom.
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition will launch for Wii across Europe on 29th June 2007.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles spreads its way across Europe on Wii in 2007.
Every so often Nintendo release games on the Wii to ensure that in an argument of what console is better, a more mature gamer can cite these examples and not feel left out of the gore race as it were. At least, that's what I believe. The console itself is certainly not shaped by horror or violent gaming in any sense; it's marketed and supported by software to be a family machine for everyone, including the hardcore gamer who can dip into yesterday's titles on the Virtual Console. However, that only lasts so long. You need your Red Steel, your Call of Duty 3 and your Resident Evil titles there for gamers who want a bit of blood, gore, scares and realism in their gaming.
It always feels a bit strange though; picking up one of these titles on a Wii. Almost like it wasn't really made for them. But Nintendo are insistant that their Wii can play any genre of game and can cater to the die hard lovers of horror gaming.
Us? We'll be testing how these games translate across the format and letting you decide if you think the Wii is made to bleed or not.
